My senior study in The Standford Italy program exposed me to a serious examination of the arts, culminating in the recent offering of La Canada High's senior elective course. "Mirror Themes" was conceived in response to the need to diversify the senior literature course to include a fuller context of humanities' subjects. Seniors are introduced early to the great questions of philosophy reflected in the evolution of Western art and anthropology. Language study is also key to expanding verbal fluency and critical writing proficiency. Major authors for a detailed study include Plato, Dante, Shakespeare, and Camus. To develop an aesthetical appreciation is also a paramount objective.
