-
Applications will be accepted March 11, 2013 - April 30, 2013.

The La Cañada Unified School District will be considering Open Enrollment (Romero Act) permits for the 2013-2014 school year. The Open Enrollment Act provides parent options for student attendance. Those parents of students at one of the 1,000 Open Enrollment schools identified for the school year have the option to request transfer to another school with a higher Academic Performance Index (API) score within the district or outside of the district. Please check the State of California Department of Education web-site (www.cde.ca.gov) to determine if your student is currently attending one of the 1,000 Open Enrollment schools.
Although it is not necessary to request permission to leave an Open Enrollment school, it is in everyone’s best interest that you notify the school of residence of your intent to seek enrollment at LCUSD to ensure that all student records will be ready for transfer without delay; and to allow the school of residence and the student to plan accordingly for the following school year. Transportation is not provided.
Priority categories are as follows:
1. Full-time LCUSD employees.
2. Siblings of continuing inter-district permit students already enrolled.
3. Students of part-time LCUSD employees.
4. Students whose parents physcially work within our school district boundaries.
(RANKED VIA A LOTTERY)
5. Residents of the City of La Cañada whose district of residence is Glendale Unified
with proof of a RELEASE from GUSD.(RANKED VIA A LOTTERY)
6. Students applying under Open Enrollment (Romero Act).
(RANKED VIA A LOTTERY)
Submission Requirements:
► Copy of student’s current report card/transcript and any standardized test scores.
► Open Enrollment Act letter from your resident district school (if available).
If you do not have a letter, please check the State of California Department of Education web-site (
www.cde.ca.gov/sp/eo/op) to determine if your resident district school is on the list. The student must be currently attending one of the 1,000 open enrollment schools to be elgible to submit an application to attend LCUSD.
Incomplete applications will be returned and will delay processing. All submission requirement documents must be included as part of the application. If the Open Enrollment Permit is approved, additional enrollment documentation will be requested at that time.
Important Dates:
► March 11, 2013: Begin acceptance of applications.
► April 30, 2013: Application deadline. Applications will NOT be accepted after the April 30, 2013 deadline.
► May 20, 2013 - May 24, 2013: LCUSD notifies notifies families of application results.
Permits will be approved in accordance with priorities established in the La Cañada Unified School District Open Enrollment Policies and Administrative Regulations. Policies and Regulations can be found on our web-site. Permits are approved based on availability of space and the order received.
Parents are reminded that the district reserves the right to rescind permits at any time for unacceptable behavior or irregular attendance. Permits may be revoked or canceled during the school year if false information is used as a basis for securing a permit or if the parent fails to report to the District circumstances which might affect the child’s continued eligibility to attend under the permit. If the student is suspended, the permit will be immediately revoked without further notice or hearing.
