Qualification Process

Update for 2023-2024

Qualification letters for all 2023-2024 4th-grade students will be mailed out to families in late July 2023.

Students may qualify for GATE by passing the OLSAT at the 98th percentile rank or above as well as meeting the alternative criteria based on standardized assessment results.

All 4th-6th grade students new to LCUSD will be administered the OLSAT test at the start of school.

Traditional LCUSD GATE Qualification Process

There are two ways students may qualify for GATE:  either through passing the OLSAT at 98th percentile rank or above or through the alternative criteria, using standardized assessment (CAASPP), district writing assessment scores, and a minimum of 80th percentile rank or above on OLSAT.  Instead of sending letters to families twice, once after OLSAT testing and again after CAASPP scores are available, it was decided by the GATE Advisory Committee to wait until CAASPP scores were available to inform families of their child’s qualification.  Letters are sent out prior to the start of school.
