4. Author of Book: Paul Stewart
5. Year the book was published: 2003
6. Genre: Science Fantasy
7. Student rating of the book (1 the highest, 5 the lowest): 5 out of 5
8. Main conflict in the book: Vox, the most high academe offers Rook, the main character, and the other Under-Librarians assistance to escape the dark maelstrom that he has predicted to occur over Santaphrax. While the Librarians escape the maelstrom, the Shrikes, Goblin Nations, and Guardians of Night will be left to perish; but can Rook and the Under Librarians be sure this isn’t another of Vox’s tricks?
9. Setting of the book: The story is set in Santaphrax, the city of academics, which is located on the giant floating rock in the sky called the Edge.
10. Main Characters and part they play in the book:
(1) The characters of Vox are Rook, Xanth, Orbix Xaxis, Magda, and Vox himself.
(2) Rook, the main character, is a young librarian knight who has been sold off to Vox as a slave. Xanth is the right-hand assistant of Orbix Xaxis, the leader of the Guardians of Night. He later has to rescue a recent companion that he met on his recent trip to Lake Landing, her name is Magda another Librarian Knight. Vox is the most high academe who used to be the greatest architect in all the Edge, but as he grew older, he slowly changed into the fat pompous fool he is now by greed and hate.
11. Are the characters believable and interesting? Vox’s characters are rich in personality and are each very unique. They’re are so believable you almost seem to become part of their world.
12. One excellent direct quotation from the book: “I can see you all,” Vox murmured gleefully “there is nowhere to hide.”
13. Good reasons to read the book: Vox is a thrilling, creative, fantasy novel with exciting plot twists that always surprise the reader. The setting is very interesting and the story is fresh and new.
14. Any reasons not to read the book? The only reason not to read Vox is the ending, which leaves the story hanging and doesn’t quite seem to finish the book. Although, the high quality writing and story more than make up for that.
15. Did you like this book or not? And why…. I loved reading Vox immensely and cannot wait to read the 7th installment in the Edge Chronicles series. I enjoyed this book because of its originality, epic scope, and the memorable characters. Vox is the 6th book in the Edge Chronicles series and is the 2nd book to the feature Rook as the main character.
