7. Student rating of the book (1 the highest, 5 the lowest): 5
8. Main conflict in the book: Gregor is caught in a war between humans and monstrous rats in a place deep below the surface of the Earth. Down there, Gregor learns that there is a true prophecy foretelling his early death. Gregor’s family also ends up down there and they could become prisoners for the rest of their lives or, even worst, die.
9. Setting of the book: (place and time) The main setting is the Underland, a strange place underground beneath New York where creatures of monstrous sizes live.
10. Main Characters and part they play in the book:
(1) Gregor
(2) Bane
11. Are the characters believable and interesting?
Gregor is not believable, but he is interesting because he is only a twelve-year old who carries the future of the Underland on his back. Because of this, he has mixed feelings about what is right and what should he do. However, the most interesting of all is that he is a rager, someone who has amazing fighting capabilities, and is supposed to kill a monster called the Bane. A prophecy wrote by someone with true vision predicts Gregor’s death, adding to all of his worries. The Bane is not believable, but is extremely interesting, because the Bane is a huge rate over 10 feet tall that is slightly unstable because as a pup, he suffered traumatic events, when his parents died. To add to this, another rat that has her own agenda is manipulating the Bane.
12. One excellent direct quotation from the book: (include who said it, page number, and
quotation marks!) “Forget about everybody who’s dead! Tick and Twitchtip and Hamnet and Thalia and Ares! And your parents, Luxa! And your pups, Ripred! Let’s just forget about everybody who gave their lives so that you could have this moment where you could – could make things right again! So you could stop the killing!” said Gregor (385)
13. Good reasons to read the book: This book is great for many people because since it’s crammed with action and interesting plots. There are many conflicts making this a great book for you. It is so absorbing; you will have a hard time putting it down. I really recommend this remarkable book with highly engrossing characters for people of all ages.
14. Any reasons not to read the book?
If you dislike fantasy or prefer nonfiction books, you should choose a different book. In addition, if you don’t like books about kids stuck in underground wars try and find another book. If not, this is the book for you.
15. Did you like this book or not? And why….
Overall, I liked the book because it had magnificent plots and great settings and was very descriptive. It is also amazing to see a 12-year-old boy who has astonishing powers try to juggle his emotions and duties and most of all the fear of his foretold death in a prophecy and in the end, end up all right.
