Updates from the sixth grade teachers:

Students arrived safely around 11:15 am.

All is well.....sunny but chilly.....students had karaoke Monday night, Tuesday night is a night hike for some and field games for others.

Weather is sunny and gorgeous.... cool in the morning and at night, but very lovely weather. Food is great. Wednesday night's dinner was a Thanksgiving dinner... turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls, and chocolate cream pie for dessert.. not bad! Wednesday classes for students included field ecology; outdoor cooking w/ a solar oven - making Pine Tree tea and quesadillas; geology; freshwater biology at the pond - love that pond scum; high ropes- amazing to see students push themselves and achieve something they wouldn't ordinarily attempt - w/ harnasses, helmets, and team support of counselors and other students in their activitiy group (includes a zip line in the trees); orienteering - learning to use a compass and find one's way in the wilderness; bird brains - how birds use their parts to their advantage (sharp beaks vs. curved ones, feather's purpose, etc); animal survivor class - studying different animals and how they adapt and survive; and a leadership class -- debate on school uniforms w/ audience participation and voting - similar to the town hall concept of government. Last night was also a night hike. Students so far have smiles on their faces. Tired and will be ready to get on the bus Friday I'm sure. But they keep them very busy.

Friday

Last night students visited the student store so expect to see lots of Pali Mt hats, t-shirts, water bottles, and sweatshirts. They also had some journal time (journals are due MONDAY!) and time to play field games. There was a movie to relax by from 730 - 9:00 pm.
This morning, we had a great breakfast and are packing up. The students saw a DVD of their adventures this week here at Pali... every student will receive a copy. There's a final class for the children with their activity leaders. Some students are actually sad to leave today, but most are excited to see their parents and even siblings, or so they tell us! The busses have arrived and we hope to leave by 11:30. They will be having a sack lunch on the bus provided by the Pali kitchen staff which is fantastic. See ya soon!

Please pick your child up on the La Cañada Blvd. side of the school about 1:00.
