August 15, 2008 Dear Parents & Guardians, It is my pleasure to welcome you to a new school year at La Cañada Elementary School. I know that this year will be filled with many exciting and positive learning experiences for your child. This year we will be introducing a new science program from Macmillan/McGraw Hill publishing. In addition, the PTA has purchased our very own WeatherBug Tracking Station with Web-based programs that integrate science, math, geography, and technology in a real-world environment. We will also continue to expand student access to technology with the PTA purchase of 12 additional Apple laptops. As we strive to meet the needs of all students, we are committed to providing the services as outlined in the “Every Student Succeeds Plan.” We will also continue to promote the 40 Developmental Assets to foster positive experiences, relationships, and personal qualities that young people need to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. With your active participation and enthusiastic support, our students will reach their highest potential. I am pleased to announce that we have added Mrs. Lindy Lowe to our teaching staff. Mrs. Lowe will be teaching second grade in Room 14. Also, Mrs. Jenny Franz, formerly Ms. Keens, will be teaching 4th grade in Room 27, and Mrs. Sheri Burns, in Room 12, will be teaching 1st grade. Our teachers and staff have been working very hard to make this year a successful one for your child. On the first day of school, please look for the packets which will be sent home with each child. The packet contains forms that need to be completed, signed, and returned to school the next day. The Parent and Student Reference Guide has been revised to reflect the current policies and will be an important tool to be used throughout the school year. Please note that students will be returning to school on Tuesday, September 2. All students will report to school at 8:15A. M. Dismissal will be at 2:50A.M. for all students except kindergarteners. Grades 1-3 will follow the Early Bird/Late Bird schedule beginning on September 15th. Early Birds arrive at 8:15 and are dismissed at 1:50P.M. Late Birds arrive at 9:15P. M. and are dismissed at 2:50P.M. I appreciate all your help and support and I look forward to working with you again this year. I'd also like to specifically thank the members of the PTA, especially Pam Knapp, our current president, for the huge contributions of time and talent that they bring to our community every day.
