School-Within-A-School was started over 25 years ago when the seventh and
eighth grade students were housed at Foothill Intermediate School under the leadership
of Principal Andrew Schmidt.
The primary purpose of the School-Within-A-School configuration is to provide a group
of students with a set of core teachers in Math, English, Social Science, and
Science in both the 7th grade and 8th grade.
This core set of teachers for each small school has a common conference period
during which they meet to discuss student progress and achievement. They also
have the opportunity to meet with students and their parents during this time
period to discuss the individual student's progress.
There are currently four small schools - the seventh grade small schools are
called School One and School Two and the eighth grade small schools are called
School Three and School Four. This configuration can change depending on the
enrollment.
