Brief Description of Position: Under the direction of the Executive Director of Special Education, with general direction from the District’s Speech Language Pathologists and site administrators, the Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides direct assistance in treating disorders in students related to articulation and phonology, language processing, hearing, and alternative and augmentative communication.

1. Minimum Requirements: Any combination of education, training and/or experience that could likely provide the required/desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered.
2. Education: An associate’s degree or higher with a major in Speech and Language Pathology Assistance, or a certificate of completion of a Speech Language Pathology Assistance program.
3. Experience: At least six (6) months experience working with individuals with speech and language disabilities in a structured environment.
4. License or Certification: Incumbents must provide proof of current registration with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the time of appointment and maintain current registration throughout employment in this classification. Must possess a valid Class C driver’s license and maintain vehicle and property damage insurance.

Work Year: Part-time at 24.0 hours per week (60% position), with a work calendar of school year (10 months) only. This position is itinerant at all three elementary sites and the high school campus. The work and location schedule for the week will be set by the Executive Director of Special Education, with consideration given to the school sites’ needs and schedules.

The selected candidate will be asked to start immediately upon clearance of background and TB checks. The last day of the SLPA work calendar for 2021-22 is Friday, June 3, 2022. A one-year probationary period must be passed before a new classified employee becomes permanent with the District.
Salary: Placement on classified salary range 29 is dependent on experience as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant. The monthly salary ranges from $2,167.73 to $2,764.18, which corresponds to $20.84 to $26.58 per hour. Longevity increases begin at the start of the employee’s eighth year with the District.

Benefits: This position is eligible to participate in the District’s medical benefit plans. Premiums paid by a part-time employee are prorated based on the employee’s full-time equivalent (FTE) percentage, which for this position is 60% (0.6 FTE). Currently the District’s maximum contribution to an employee’s benefits package is $15,930 per year.
