LCHS Honored with Four ASPA Scholastic Yearbook and Magazine Awards

Each year, the American Scholastic Press Association recognizes excellence in yearbook, newspaper and magazine design and publication for achievements in format, content and presentation. In addition to Omega’s award, LCHS’ literary arts magazine, The Ink and The Iris, also received a first place designation for its 2023 publication. LCHS 7/8's Alpha yearbook received a second place designation for its 2023 publication: “Retro. Be Kind, Please Rewind.” The school’s inaugural issue of its literary arts magazine, The Sword and The Spear, was also honored with a second place award.

“(The Omega and Alpha) yearbook(s) show a growing knowledge in the fields of writing, photography and page design, and contain elements of…memorable yearbooks that will be treasured for years to come. Congratulations to the editors, writers, photographers, layout/graphics designers, staff and advisor who have made this publication possible,”  the 2023 ASPA Yearbook Judges remarked. Of the two magazines submitted, they said: “Your magazine shows the superior efforts of talented and creative editors, writers, artists, photographers, designers, and contributors.”

Established in 1980, the American Scholastic Press Association receives hundreds of submissions annually from secondary schools, colleges and universities across North America. 2023 marks the first year that LCHS has submitted any publications to the awards program for consideration. The school offers a wide range of journalism opportunities for students, including two newspapers: LCHS 7/8's The Odyssey and LCHS’ The Spartan, which is in its 32nd consecutive year of publication.
