Overview
Mission Statement of Common Core State Standards
“The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy." Source:www.corestandards.org
The CCSS standards demand that all students:
- Engage in rigorous and complex thinking across the grade levels and subjects
- Read more non -fiction and high level books and articles
- Engage in more in depth, authentic writing and research and math projects in class and out in the world
- Have informed opinions, actively participating in an exchange of ideas with their classmates and supporting their arguments with evidence
- Explore problems that do not always result in one simple answer
With daily learning experiences aligned to the Common Core State standards, all students will be able to “think more, achieve more and succeed in our rapidly changing world.”
