Octavia Thuss

Octavia Thuss joined the La Cañada Unified School District Board of Education in December 2022 and is currently serving her first term. Her commitment to education, community service, and civic engagement has made her a valued member of the board and a passionate advocate for students and families.
 
Octavia and her husband, Charles, moved to La Cañada Flintridge in 2010 with their three sons, all of whom have attended LCUSD schools. Since settling in the community, Octavia has embraced every opportunity to contribute, building strong relationships with neighbors, educators, and fellow parents. Her involvement spans a wide range of school and community organizations, including the La Cañada High School Music Parents Association, La Cañada Engineering Club, Boy Scouts – JPL Troop 509, Measure LC 2020, Community Scholarship Foundation, and the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association. She has also volunteered with AYSO and served in multiple roles at La Cañada Elementary School, where she especially enjoyed chairing Art Appreciation Week and presenting during World Fair. Recently, Octavia joined the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada, continuing her commitment to service and connection within the community.
 
Raised in Pasadena and Palm Desert, Octavia earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in Education from the University of Alabama. Her professional background includes years as a history teacher, during which she served as an assistant softball coach and Mock Trial advisor. As a teacher specialist for Glendale Unified School District, she produced television segments highlighting district bond projects. More recently, she enjoyed working as a substitute teacher within LCUSD, staying closely connected to the classroom experience.
 
Married for 23 years, Octavia and Charles continue to be active members of the La Cañada Flintridge community. Her blend of educational expertise, volunteer leadership, and deep local involvement makes her a dedicated and thoughtful voice on the school board.
