La Cañada Unified School District continues to prioritize student and staff health and follows established requirements for Los Angeles County public schools as set for by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH). The LCUSD COVID Compliance Team actively monitors the cases in the district, including appropriate notifications and communication with LACDPH.

Here are the latest COVID-19 Protocols:

People with symptoms of COVID-19 should wear a mask, isolate, and get tested. Common symptoms include:

Fever of 100.4+ Shortness of breath Headache
Runny nose New loss of taste or smell Nausea or vomiting
Cough Stuffy nose Diarrhea
Sore throat Muscle or body aches

Symptoms can be identical to cold/flu or allergy symptoms. If your child tests negative using an antigen test but continues having COVID-19 symptoms, they should continue to stay home and away from others and retest in 2 days. Please don’t send your child to school if they are sick.

If your student tests positive for COVID-19: (See new isolation guidelines)

1: Individuals with COVID-19 who have symptoms: Shall stay home away from others until symptoms are mild and improving AND until fever free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication. Individuals with COVID-19 who leave isolation before 10 days from symptom onset must wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask when around others (for example KN95, N95). Masks can be removed sooner if the individual obtains two sequential negative tests taken at least one day apart.

2: Individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 and have no symptoms: These individuals are not required to isolate provided they wear a well-fitting, high-quality mask whenever around other people for 10 days following their positive test result. Masking is a requirement. Masks can be removed sooner if the individual obtains two sequential negative tests taken at least one day apart.

3: Please alert the school attendance hotline immediately that your child has tested positive for COVID-19 so that we can reduce the risk of an outbreak. People with COVID-19 are contagious and capable of infecting others 2 days prior to developing symptoms.

4: Email your school health clerk and your student’s teacher(s). Teachers will give specific instructions on completing schoolwork while the student is at home in isolation. There are no Zoom classes.

5: Notify any close contacts who may have been exposed to COVID-19.

6: Notify your student’s primary healthcare provider as needed to see if they qualify for treatment with Paxlovid.
