If Your Child Tests Positive for COVID-19, Please Follow the Steps Below:

  1. Keep your student home from school and isolated from others in the home.
  2. Call the attendance hotline to report the absence.
  3. Email your school health clerk (see email addresses below), your student’s teacher (if in elementary school), and Katie Metz RN [email protected] (COVID Compliance Team Nurse).  If your student is in grades 7-12, they should email their teachers.  Teachers will give specific instructions on completing schoolwork while the student is at home in isolation.  There are no Zoom classes.

    PCY:  [email protected]

    LCE:  [email protected]

    PCR:  [email protected]

    7-12:  [email protected]

  4. Notify any close contacts who may have been exposed to COVID-19.
  5. Notify your student’s primary healthcare provider as needed.
  6. If your student’s symptoms are gone or have improved on DAY 5 (including no fever for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication), have them take an antigen test (an over-the-counter test is acceptable).  If the results are negative, your student can return to school on DAY 6.  If it is positive, your student must continue to isolate, even if their symptoms are gone.  If your student is still testing positive on DAY 10, they may return to school on DAY 11 regardless of test results (as long as their symptoms have improved and they have been fever free for at least 24 hours).  DAY 0 is the day symptoms begin OR the date of the positive test if there are no symptoms.  The above isolation protocol is a requirement set by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

If you have questions about isolation guidelines you can contact the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Coronavirus hotline:  (877) 777-5799 or 211.  For other questions you can email your school’s health clerk or Katie Metz RN.
