Brief Description of Position: La Cañada Unified School District has an opening in school year 2019-20 for a full-time school counselor at the secondary level. This is a first-semester assignment only on a temporary contract to cover a permanent employee’s leave of absence.

The High School Counselor is responsible to the Assistant Principal for providing counseling and guidance services to students and implementation of District Graduation requirements. The counselor serves as a member of the Student Guidance Team and a member of the I.E.P. team for assigned Special Education students, one counselor will serve as a member of the Advisory Council.

Work Year: This is a full-time position (100%), August through December (5 months). First day of paid service is Wednesday, July 31, 2019. A new staff member orientation day has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, 2019. The first day with students will be Thursday, August 15, 2019, and the last day of service is expected to be Thursday, December 19, 2019. A temporary contract will be offered for the time of service to cover a permanent employee’s leave of absence.
Benefits
Salary Range: Placement on the certificated salary schedule is dependent on education and years of employment in a public school district. No cap on years for public school experience. The monthly salary range for a school counselor is $4,431.09 to $8,982.77.

This position is eligible to participate in the District’s medical benefit plans. Currently the District’s maximum contribution to an employee’s benefits package is $15,505 per year.
Requirements
Qualifications:
1. Credential: Valid California Pupil Personnel Services credential authorizing school counseling.
2. Education: Master’s degree
3. Experience: Preferred: Two years or more successful high-school counseling. Successful teaching experience in the secondary classroom is highly desirable.

Salary
The monthly salary range for a school counselor is $4,431.09 to $8,982.77, with salary placement dependent on education and experience.
